  • 2022

    This year we look forward with excitement to celebrating 50 years in business. From our humble beginnings in 1972, we reflect on what has been an astonishing 50 years of the Owens Group.

  • 2021

    In our attempt to further expand our services in South Wales and to meet significant growth in the home delivery, express delivery and pallet network sector, the Group acquires Celtic Couriers Holdings LTD which operates the APC parcel network and Fortec pallet network in South West Wales.

  • 2020

    – Owens Group acquire the former Schaeffler / INA Bearings site at Bynea, SA14. The 235,900 sq foot building, which is a part of a 17.47 acre site becomes the Group’s new headquarters.

  • 2018

    We have acquired Manchester based BTS Haulage Ltd. As a result BTS Haulage will now benefit from our growing network and help improve our existing operations.

  • 2017

    Due to the groups strategic expansion, our workforce has grown to 800 staff with sales reaching £60 million.

  • 2016

    We radically rebrand Owens Road Services to Owens Group. This includes new liveries, logos and most importantly a new name that incorporates the diverse services that we provide.

  • 2015

    Our workforce grows to 500, with a growing turnover of around £50 million.

  •  

  • 2014

    We acquired a state of the art, 75,000sq ft. warehousing facility near Bridgend which is minutes from the M4. A strategically based depot is also opened at Hemel Hempstead.

  • 2013

    March 2013 saw the opening of our in-house Authorised Testing Facility strategically located just off Junction 48 of the M4 at Llangennech near Llanelli.

  • 2009

    We considerably expand the operation with the opening of two new depots. One depot is opened at Newport just off the M4 and includes large warehousing and distribution facilities. The other depot is opened at Wrexham enabling the company to grow its capabilities in North Wales and regions in the North of England.

  • 2008

    Eastward expansion continues with the opening of Owens’ first English depot in the strategically important town of Droitwich, Worcestershire.

  •  

  • 2007

    Two major contracts are won. One to distribute goods used in building a huge new UK pipeline and the other with a global on line retailer. Storage and distribution operations are improved along the M4 in Port Talbot. A smart new look livery is introduced, teaming a distinctive circular logo with Owens traditional blue and red.

  • 2006

    An approved Tachograph Centre is opened at our head quarters in Llanelli.

  •  

  • 2005

    With strengthening ties to the steel industry, our workforce grows to 150.

  • 2003

    Continued expansion of South Wales operations sees a new depot opened at Bridgend. We also acquire a fleet of recovery vehicles that are used to service our own growing fleet and outside operations.

  • 2002

    We clinch a distribution contract with a major U.K. supermarket. We also become founding members of the Pallet Force network.

  •  

  • 1995

    Warehouse facilities and services are launched. It was to become a key element of a carefully diversified business.

  • 1992

    We take an automotive load on to the European mainland for the first time.

  •  

  • 1985

    Trusted, efficient distribution and strong links with the automotive industry see the Owens fleet increase to over 30 vehicles.

  •  

  • 1977

    The flourishing company changes its name from Owens Brothers to Owens Road Services and its blue liveried Lorries become a familiar sight across the country.

  • 1972

    Brothers Huw and Eurof launch light haulage operations from Llanelli South Wales with one van. Owens Brothers (as the business was then known) started by carrying furniture, kitchens and piano parts and soon acquires two small lorries.
